Why did this Manager choose an online language course?
Did he enjoy it and, more importantly, what did he get out of it? We asked these and other questions to Gianluca Di Chiazza.
We recently talked with Gianluca Di Chiazza, a Distribution Sales Manager at Hypertherm Europe, who shared his experience with our online English course. His course, which ended just a few days ago, included one-to-one online sessions with one of our mother tongue teachers on Skype for Business. The program had a flexible schedule to accomodate Mr. Di Chiazza’s work schedule.
Gianluca, why did you decide to take an online English course?
I work for an American company which is based in The Netherlands. So, English is necessary for me to share my vision of the market. I chose to take this course to feel more confident in my speaking skills.
What factors influenced your choice of school? And what about the type of course?
I had heard good feedback on ILS so I decided to request a course proposal. I didn’t look at any other offers because the best publicity is the word of mouth. Doing the course online was the only option for me since I don’t have a stable working calendar.
How did you get on with the online lessons? And the teacher?
Very well with the online lessons. The teacher, Matt, was able to teach effectively, he understood what my primary goal was (conversation) and based the lessons on that.
How was it for you to interact with the teacher through Skype for Business?
It was very important for me to be able to see the teacher, and the video version was very effective.
Do you feel like you improved your English? If so, how?
I feel that I am more confident in English, which is even more important than improving my English per se. Now, I find it less complicated for me to communicate in English and that was my goal.
Was this course helpful for your job?
Do you have any advice for future students taking this type of course?
Try to fix a weekly lesson session and stick to it even if you will have to move other work meetings for it. Regular attendance is crucial in a short term course in order to avoid losing the improvements achieved.
Working remotely and language learning
Working from home requires a new vision for language courses, as “face-to-face” courses in classrooms are no longer possible. While for many online courses are now a necessity given the current circumstances, for ILS International Language School online lessons have been a valid teaching method for quite some time now.
To have an effective online course it is important to understand your initial language level and identify your specific needs and learning objectives.
